Welcome to the library
The library at Castle Green will become the Jo Richardson School Library as of 28th March 2013. The Public Library closed on this date. Students will have access to all the books and resources available in the school library. Students can still return their library books to the school library at Jo Richardson. Students can still use their current library card in the same way to borrow books at the school library or any Public library.
STREETBASE CONNECT CARD
All students should have one of these cards, they are a library card as well. The unique bar-code on the front of the card is personal to each student. The bar-code only relates to the Library System and nothing else. A student should have this bar-code registered in the JRCS Library, (see the School Librarian), a student can use the card to borrow books.
REMEMBER - Students must see the 'school librarian' to register the library bar-code on the card to activate it as a library card. This is separate from activating the Street Base Card to use it for making payments.
Opening Times
The library is normally open every school day at 8am. At certain times the use of the library may be restricted to members of a particular form or year group. All members are welcome to use the library whenever it is open to the public, including before and after school and holidays.
Borrowing Items
Your membership card must be produced every time you borrow items. Students are allowed to borrow up to 3 books from the library for a three week period. All items from the library must be given to the librarian for processing, who will then scan and stamp the book with the return date. All items must be returned on time. However, if at the end of the three week period the item is still needed, it can be renewed for a further three week period providing no one else is waiting to use it.
Lost or damaged items
All students must look after the library property and return it promptly and in good condition. A charge will be made to recover the replacement costs of any lost or damaged items. Students with outstanding charges will not be allowed to borrow items until these costs are paid.
IT Terminals and CD-ROMs
These are available for all students to use for personal research and homework. A booking system operates to ensure that all students have fair access to the computers. Internet use is restricted to those sites which are approved for research or homework.
Behaviour in the library
The library is a place for quiet study, research, reading and homework. No food or drink is allowed into the library. Students whose behaviour gives a cause for concern may be excluded and/or banned from the library.
Borough Libraries
Your library card allows you to use any public library in Barking and Dagenham. Opening times for other public libraries in the Borough can be found on the library's Community Information Board.
