Biometric Catering System

We have a fantastic opportunity to bring biometric authentication technology into Jo Richardson to primarily cut down the time your son/daughter queues for food at break and lunch times and, secondly, to eradicate the issue of lost Streetbase cards.

The biometric system works by students placing a fingerprint on the scanner which automatically brings up their account and photograph.  The till operator then simply enters the order onto the system and the product values are shown on the display. Students will no longer have to worry about ensuring they have a Streetbase card or their planner with them to access their account.

In some schools there have been concerns from parents in relation to storage of student fingerprints; however, this will not be an issue with the modern technology we propose to install.  No student fingerprints are stored at all; instead a numerical coding is used to recognise each student.  It is also impossible for this numerical value to be reverse engineered to create a fingerprint.  When students leave school, all of their data is deleted from the system and should they return they are re-registered with a new account.

We do not yet know when this will be installed but further details will be published when available.

Should you wish to discuss this any further please contact myself directly at headteacher@jrcs.bardaglea.org.uk and I will be happy to answer any queries you may have.
