Extended homework

Extended Homework Tasks

Research and independent learning skills are becoming increasingly important to students in this information age in which we are living. These critical skills are also necessary in order to meet the demands of coursework in Key Stage 4 and beyond.

To this end we are changing the way that homework has been traditionally set for Year 7 and 8 students in order to establish early the skills that they will need to use throughout their studies. From September 2010 extended homework tasks will replace the smaller weekly homework activities which are currently in place.  These tasks will often span several weeks and will involve the need for students to be organised and plan their time very carefully.  Each subject will issue one extended task throughout the year.  The timetable below highlights when each subject task will be issued.  This will help you to monitor and support your Son/ Daughter.

Students will be provided help and support by their classroom teacher to complete the tasks and mid point checks will be put in place to ensure appropriate progress is made.  All extended homework tasks will have a clear hand in date and it is vital that your Son/ Daughter meets these deadlines.  All subjects will use the same feedback sheet to ensure consistency.  A copy of this can be found under the Feedback sub-menu.

I must stress at this point that the only subjects that will not be issuing extended homework tasks are Maths and English.  They will stick to the system of regular, smaller homework activities
