About The Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Award Scheme is simply a programme of leisure-time activities.  It challenges young people throughout the world aged 14-25, to volunteer and serve others, acquire new skills and experience adventure.

The Scheme is not competitive, and anyone with the necessary perseverance, enterprise and effort can gain an Award, including students with additional learning needs.  Participants are encouraged to choose activities that particularly suit their interests and talents.

Congratulations to the following Year 11 students who have now successfully completed their bronze awards; Alfie Yeaman, Darita Odou, Aaron Martin, Hayley Willis, Avril Loynes, Bradley Low and Rebecca Dallas, and Tommy Lee (ex-student) who has completed his gold award.  For anyone else in Year 11 or 12 wanting to complete a silver or bronze award in time for the re-scheduled D of E Celebration Evening now taking place on Wednesday 25th April, there are two more chances to get help and support with uploading the required evidence.  These will take place in BS2 3:30 – 5pm on Tuesday 27th March (next Tuesday) and Tuesday 17th April (first Tuesday back after Easter).  Students from Year 10 who need help in order to be eligible for further expedition training can also attend these sessions.

NEW Equipment Loan Contract

To ensure that all the school’s camping equipment is kept in good order, all students and their parents/carers will have to sign up to this new contract before being loaned any more kit this year.  A copy of the letter, contract and care of equipment guidance can be downloaded here.  Please note that both documents need to be read and understood to fulfil the requirements of the loan contract.

D of E on the school website

We have a very up to date website page on the school website http://www.jrcs-school.org.uk/duke-of-edinburgh

All the information you need about session and expedition dates is there.  You can also download useful documents, like trip letters.  A big ‘thank-you’ goes out to Terry Dignam of the D of E staff group who does such a great job keeping the site up to date for us.
