Cashless Catering at JRCS – Common Questions
JRCS is now a cashless school. Below is an explanation of the different functions of the cashless lunch card and the most common questions we have had in the main office.
THE CARD – The card is personalised for each student with their name, the school logo and a barcode on one side and the Streetbase connect branding on the other. The card has the same technology in it as an Oyster card and so is passed over a reader on a till.
PARENTPAY – This is the system that allows you to put money on the card. Parents register for this and choose payments towards school meals. In the future all school visits and activities will be paid this way. You can add funds to the ParentPay account either on the internet or through the local PayPoint network. If your child has free school meals money is added automatically at 12.30 each day.
STREETBASE CONNECT – This is the part of the card for the students. They register the card and then use it to collect points. The card will work even if it has not been registered on the Streetbase connect site. The Streetbase connect site will not show you the balance of the school dinner account, this can only be done on the ParentPay site or on a balance reader at school.
I can‘t activate my Streetbase connect card
The Streetbase connect website has had real difficulties dealing with the number of students registering across the borough. The website has been moved to a different server and now should be working properly. Please read the headlines on the activation page to see if the server is responding. You can still use the card in school to pay for school meals even if you have not registered on the Streetbase connect site.
I have free school meals, what should I do?
Nothing! Your meal allowance will be added each day and will be ready to from 9am. Even if you have not registered the card on Streetbase or with ParentPay it will still work.
I have free school meals and want to buy food at other times of the day apart from lunch
You will need to register with ParentPay and add funds to your account using the website. You can also take the barcode activation letter to a local PayPoint terminal.
I have left my card at home
Join the food queue as normal and when you get to the till operator give them your name and date of birth and they will still serve you. You will only be allowed a token once all card holders have gone through so don’t try and join a queue until 1.45pm.
I have lost my card
Go to the main school office and let Mrs Mitchell know. She will order you a new card. You will have to pay for a new one of you loose in more than twice.
The balance says zero but my parents put money on at a local shop
It takes up to 48 hours for funds to be shown on your account. In practice we are finding money appears the next day. Please remember to plan in advance when topping up. We will loan money to the account if your balance is zero, but this will be taken from the top-up amount.
I can’t activate my ParentPay account
Please contact the main school office that will help with this. They will either guide you through the activation process or reissue you a username and password.
I have logged onto Streetbase connect and can’t see my balance
You will not be able to see your school dinner money credit using the Streetbase connect website. You can only see the money on your card by using ParentPay or the balance checker in school.
I went to a PayPoint terminal and the card didn’t work
You can only use the barcode on the activation letter to put money on your account. The barcode on your card is your library card. If you would like a permanent card for PayPoint please contact Mrs Mitchell in the main office.
The school website in continuously updated with information and guidance on what to do. Please look on the website before ringing school with questions.
Many thanks
